Trust...I'd say it's usually reserved for the most important people in our lives, but I'd have to take that back real quick because I know we all trust the baristas at Starbucks to blend up our exact orders (even down to the sprinkle of cinnamon on top)...and hope they'll spell our names right while they're at it.
Sounds crazy, but imagine God as the coolest, most accurate barista of all time. Imagine He's out there making the best custom lattes in the world--millions at a time--adding a little more sugar for those who need a boost and spelling every name right. Imagine that He is just standing at the counter waiting on us to ask Him for what we have a taste for.
The cool thing is that we can trust Him with our big requests as easily as we'd trust a barista with a crazy drink order. MATTHEW 7:7-8 says, "ASK, AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU; SEEK, AND YOU WILL FIND; KNOCK, AND IT WILL BE OPENED TO YOU. FOR EVERYONE WHO ASKS RECEIVES, AND THE ONE WHO SEEKS FINDS, AND TO THE ONE WHO KNOCKS IT WILL BE OPENED." Humbly, I can say I've seen this verse manifested in my life so many times!! God is SO GOOD, and HE COMES THROUGH in the way He sees best.
I know asking can seem needy. Some people find it a bit selfish to "submit requests" to God. But if done with a THANKFUL HEART and an understanding that His will is the best will, what's the harm? He knows we aren't perfect; He also knows we can't reach our full potential without Him. Sometimes I think God wants us to acknowledge our need for Him before our plans ever work out. So if you're trying to accomplish something, add God to the mix. Ask Him with faith to bless your plans. And hey it's January...ask God to bless your resolutions PROVERBS 16:3.
A few of my friends have told me they order the same Starbucks drink every time they make a coffee run. The barista knows their order before they can even say "one caramel macchiato please" (who can relate? me...but at my favorite smoothie place). Same with God. The more time we spend with Him (not just asking for things, but also reading His Word and praising Him), the more frequently we'll realize that He knows everything we could ever desire without us having to say, "hey Heavenly Father, would you...?" every time. Our belief in Jesus has the Holy Sprit praying for us behind the scenes ROMANS 8:26.
But with God out there being the best boss barista of life, He has the authority to shake things up a bit. He might not give us exactly what we want when we want it, but when He does slide our order over, it'll be better than we could ever imagine.
God's no genie; however, He is Someone much greater who knows how to fulfill our requests better than we know how to ask. Give God your order, and TRUST + HAVE FAITH + BELIEVE that He will serve up some greatness!
With that, kick off the New Year by asking God to BLESS your resolutions, goals, dreams, or whatever great thing you have in mind. God is good, and He wants to be a part of your dream chasing. Hope this post blesses someone out there!
p.s. Hope the Starbucks analogy isn't tempting someone to break a resolution to eat healthier. I love iced coffee, but smoothies taste better anyway!!
