THE LITTLE THINGS
Updated: Feb 12, 2019
On Saturday, my mom, my sister, and I decided to take a spontaneous road trip to Georgia. We literally packed our bags the same morning we left and hit the road. Since we've arrived, I couldn't have asked for a better place to spend time with my family and get away from my regular routine.
Yesterday, my grandpa took my mom and I on a ride around his hometown. He loves doing this every time we come to visit, and we love finding out new details about his life and the city in which he grew up that weren't mentioned during a previous "tour."
As I sat in the backseat of his truck with the windows down, I listened to the peaceful hum of crickets and the gentle summer breeze, felt the rush of cool air blowing against my skin, smelled the irreplaceable scent of freshly cut grass and bloomed flowers, and saw the many sights my grandpa pointed out against a background of lightning bugs and scenic views. The evening could not have been more perfect. Spending quality time together is what made the ride so significant and pleasant to me. I absolutely love being around my family, and I truly enjoy learning about what my older relatives did in their younger days.
As you can see, making me happy doesn't take much. But whatever the little things in life may be for you, go out there and experience them. Recently I've learned to be more spontaneous and adventurous, and this has allowed me to see more of the beautiful elements life has to offer. Whether it's hosting a picnic in the park with your friends or watching movies in your pjs with your family, do something you normally wouldn't...even if it initially seems basic. Tomorrow isn't promised, and we often take life for granted. While you may not be able to take a road trip within a day's notice, it doesn't take much to do something that will make you and those around you happy.
Live life abundantly. Get out there and seek an adventure that your normal weekly routine wouldn't provide to you.
God created us to be joyful, and He's given us plenty of reasons to be just that. It's up to us to take what He's put in front of us and appreciate everything to the fullest...even the smallest of blessings. And at the end of your moments full of enjoying life's little things, don't forget to thank God for the amazing experiences. He deserves all the credit!
I hope you are refreshed by this short post and the pictures of me loving life in the state I consider my second home. When you find your next free moment, get up and LIVE like Ecclesiastes 3:12 tells us to... "so I realized that all we can do is be happy and do the best we can while we are still alive." As long as we live in faith. love, and purity, we are free to enjoy ourselves. Be sure to check out the verses below as you embark on your journey of living life with more appreciation for the little things. Doing so will surely make a big and positive impact!
stay amazing, Jade
